Affectionate Horses: Some Pictures!

I really adore it when the field horses forget that they've never been halter-broke and are affectionate to me. Not to mention, they make for cute pictures. :)

Oh hi, can I nuzzle your sleeve?
If I show you my pretty nose, then will you scratch my rump? (Spirit's favorite spot to be scratched is right near her tail. Not sure why, lol.)
You aren't giving me proper attention; oh btw, is this edible?
I'll pose for you if it means you'll itch my neck once you're done!

A Short Photographic Journey: Part Three!

The final part of stable pictures from a bit back. :)

This is the best shot I could get of Pawnee! She was moving around a lot and the lighting in the upper barn wasn't the best.

Oh hii. I'm checkin' out your camera.

A Short Photographic Journey: Part Two

Here's the second part of some photos I got of the stable horses! The first part may be viewed here.

Chestnut National Show Horse in Field
This is Top Secret, a chestnut National Show Horse. NSHs are an Arab-Saddlebred cross.

Yes, he does have a lovely tail.

Annnnd, Secret from the side. His age actually is starting to show - I think he's 18 or 19.

Nom nom nom.

Here is Billy the QH stud munching on some hay outside the upper barn.
22-year-old Red Dunalino Quarter Horse stud eating hay
Yes I know the picture really isn't the loveliest of him. You can see how nice his conformation is, though, and also how good he's looking for a 22-year old horse.
Horse's muzzle wanting to eat the camera
This is Noah's muzzle. He's a very curious boy and was checking out the camera!

"Are you sure? Come on, go grab me some and I'll wait for you!"

"Aww really? Well okay then I'll just leave."
Chestnut pinto horse with mark shaped like a hunter saddle
This is Promise (and yes she does really have a tail!). On her right side as shown here, she has a hunter saddle color patch. On the other side she has an English saddle. :)

Here you can see the English-saddle side of her.

A Short Photographic Journey: Part One

Today I had the opportunity to hit the road for my daily with with the camera!

It took quite a while to discover that the camera was on auto-focus (which has issues) instead of manual, so not all the pictures turned out showable quality. And even the ones that did are somewhat blurry - which I guess is somewhat nonescapable when you have a moving camera + moving objects.

Anyway, here some of them are from my walk around the stables. It started with following behind as the field horses were being fed, led to the upper barn, and hit the road up by Legacy's pen.

Also, this will divided up into two or three posts. Be awaiting them. :)

Just chillin'.

And again. (:

Rave (the black) is so pretty in this one.

Oh what now, silly?

And yay, sitting in the emptied-of-hay tractor bucket with my horse-inappropriate shoes!

What's Going on at the Stables

Today was good! Usually I just pick out stalls, water, and help feed (it's been too hot lately to work Angel). In contrast, today lots of other things happened!

My time at the stables started by handling Love (a bay Arab) as MiniOwner applied Betadine on him. I don't really know quite what happened to him, but somehow he scraped some skin off him in places. It wasn't anything horrid, and treating it was simple. We filled a small bucket half-full with water, put in some Betadine, and then gently scrubbed it in using clean paper towels. Then we followed that up with using antibiotic spray.

After that, we bathed Tamale (or, Molly)! She's been at the stables for some time now, and will be staying till she's bred to Fire. Her coat was dull-looking and flies had been bothering her, so we commenced with the bathing.

She was actually very good about it, and stood there as MiniOwner and I scrubbed shampoo on her after hosing her down. It took a good 45 minutes, and she looks gorgeous now. :)

I wasn't expecting this (even though it didn't nearly reach 100 degrees), but I was told it wasn't too hot to work Angel. Yay! I didn't lunge her very long, for the lunge lines were over at Other Barn. Regardless, she had a lot of energy and was happy to be exercised.

Following that, I had the opportunity to groom up Buster! As grooming on any horse is, that was awesome.

Then I helped feed a bit. 'Twas a good day. :)

Spirit

Other than Nolia, Spirit is usually the only other horse that comes up to me (sometimes) to munch on yummy grass. Here are some pictures of her. :)

Also, Spirit is a Saddlebred! She shows a lot of characteristics for the breed; such as a long, straight head, flattish croup, long torso, and high-set tail.

Spirit, a buckskin American Saddlebred
Spirit has pretty eyes and a long, thin stripe that makes her look even taller.
Conformation of Spirit, a buckskin American Saddlebred
In my opinion, she has quite nice conformation. :)
Dreadlocks on a buckskin American Saddlebred mare
Yikes. If she would let me mess with her mane, I might be able to get the dreadlocks under control. But even then...
Buckskin horse with silvering in mane and no dorsal stripe
Being a buckskin, she doesn't have a broad dorsal stripe (or any at all, for this horse), and she also has some slight silvering in her mane and tail.
American Saddlebred's conformation from the near-hind
Again, you can see her nice conformation.
